The government of the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, reported a new blackout in the industrial sector, despite the recent announcement of the cessation of power cuts, which have caused a 3% drop in the industrial sector, the Telesur website reported.
He points out that the Minister of Energy and Mines, Inés Manzan, confirmed the 15-day industrial blackout, which will take place from December 15 to 30, and clarified that it will affect seven major industries in the country.
“The industries of the high voltage group four (AV4), which are four companies: two mining companies and two steel mills connected directly to the transmission lines, are going to be disconnected for 15 days and large consumers (AV1): there are three cement companies; the others will maintain the cuts they have had,” said the minister.
He also specified that companies represent 5% of energy demand on a national scale or in so-called consumer groups (AV).
In this regard, the president of the Guayaquil Chamber of Industries, Francisco Jarrín, explained that “the impact is given to the entire production chain that receives or demands products from these companies, that is, they are not isolated. It should not be seen as affecting only a few companies.”
The president of the Ecuadorian Business Committee, María Paz Jervis, considered that 5,500 workers will be affected by the total blackout for the AV1 and AV2 groups in the industrial sector and estimated possible losses of money, of around 100 million dollars.
