This Thursday, the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade and Investment of Ecuador reported that it increased the security rate for imports from Colombia, from 30% to 50%.

The decision was based on “Colombia's lack of implementation of concrete and effective border security measures.” The Ecuadorian Government said that the fight against drug trafficking on the common border is “a task that must be joint,” Rusia Today (RT) detailed on its website.

Ecuador and Colombia entered into a trade war since January 21, when the Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, imposed tariffs of 30% on Colombian imports.

Bogotá responded immediately, declaring the suspension of the sale of electricity to the neighboring country and the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on Ecuadorian products.
