The extreme right-wing government of Argentina promotes racism in the country, especially against the Mapuches in Patagonia, where the administration of Javier Milei undertook a series of actions to eliminate the historic presence of native peoples.
The spokesman for the Argentine presidency, Manuel Adorni, raised the position of siege against Mapuche leaders, with a series of expressions that attack and seek to belittle this population that suffered the genocide in Patagonia, reported the Fuser News portal.
“The spread of pseudo Mapuche flags and symbolism ended, and all the agreements made by the previous administration with false Mapuche communities to give them protected areas were reviewed,” Adorni said in statements to the media.
In his racist statement, he recalled that Lake Acigami, “an aboriginal name that means “elongated bag”, was renamed Lake Roca as it was until 2008, in honor of Julio Argentino Roca, former president of the Republic.
For her part, the activist Mira Millán, author of the book Terricide, said that Roca established colonial racism in Patagonia and that these expressions that attack the original peoples who suffered fascist actions, now Milei wants to restore that logic, as a political agenda repudiated by a large part of the people, through the use of social networks.
