The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in his Con Maduro+ program, called on the bodies associated with the reduction of risks due to the rains to prepare for the coming rains that “are torrential”.

“(...) global warming causes a lot of water to accumulate in the clouds and when it discharges, it's like several sticks with water on the same point,” he described.

During his speech, President Maduro highlighted the responsibility of his government team and instructed the sectoral vice-presidents of Politics, Public Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello; and of Public Works and Services, Jorge Márquez, to activate a “special plan to prepare us for the rains”.

Despite the fact that there are still two weeks left before the formal arrival of the rains, President Maduro explained, and reiterated that “heavy rainfall” is expected, because global warming has caused “a lot of water to accumulate in the clouds” and that, when it discharges, it is “like several straws with water on the same point,” he exemplified.

“We have to prepare ourselves, prepare cities, prepare all towns, repair machinery, prepare preventive measures and prepare the capacity for action to replace roads, access roads, housing and everything that needs to be responded to and protect life, which is the most important thing,” he emphasized.

President Maduro also stressed the importance of constant attention to any eventuality, stressing that for the Bolivarian Government “there is no December 31, Holy Week, 24. We're in real time.”

The President also mentioned that he maintains permanent communication with the governors, naming the entities of Trujillo and Lara; and that teams from the Gran Misión Barrio Nuevo Barrio Tricolor have been deployed to serve the population in the west of the country.

In addition, he expressed concern about housing losses in some areas affected by flooding of streams and rivers.

“I sent a message to the governors and mayors: these are issues of a municipal nature. We have to put up our batteries to continue the process initiated by Commander Chávez, of ending high-risk areas,” he said.

The Head of State told those who have lost their homes that “their housing is insured” and reiterated that “the important thing is life, everything else is recovered”.

In this regard, he stressed that the people of Venezuela can trust a “Christian, revolutionary, socialist government [that is] keeping up with the rain 24 hours a day.”
