“(Edmundo) González Urrutia is shivering with an attack of fear and he sent to buy suitcases in Beco because he is leaving, González Urrutia is sleeping in a place in Altamira (Miranda state) and he said that as soon as his suitcases arrive he goes to the reeds because he is in a fit of fear”.
This was the complaint made by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, during a speech given from the Miraflores Palace where he received the Long March in celebration of Victory in the presidential elections of last July 28.
He criticized the cowardly attitude of the former candidate of opposition extremism. “He's a coward! González Urrutia looks cowardly!” , he urged.
He dismissed the constant interfering opinions on the part of right-wing governments that ensure the existence of persecution against the former candidate of opposition extremism.
“This man has been summoned twice by the prosecution and has not attended. Donald Trump, who was president of the United States, has been summoned and he goes, Donald Trump can't think of not going to the prosecution because if he doesn't go he knows he's in jail. (Jair) Bolsonaro, who was president of Brazil, has been quoted by the prosecutor's office and he's there like a carnation, it doesn't even occur to him not to go because otherwise he's in jail,” he said.
Contrary to these actions of former right-wing leaders in respect for institutions and laws, President Maduro pointed out that former candidate González Urrutia has publicly and flagrantly ignored all institutions.
“This man has the guts to have ignored the electoral power, to have lied on a page where 83% of the documents are forged, he was summoned by the country's highest court and he wasn't and the prosecution has summoned him twice and he hasn't gone, can a citizen like us not attend a summons from the prosecution? No, why? Because you're in prison,” he explained.
The National President stressed that in Venezuela, as in other countries, justice, respect for laws and institutions will be respected.
“Here no one comes to criticize us, in Venezuela we will respect our laws, the constitution and the institutionality as they do in all countries,” he said.
