The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, presented this Saturday before the National Assembly the proposals for constitutional reform that will be debated with the People, throughout the territory, to deepen democracy in the country.
During the Solemn Session for the 206th anniversary of the Installation of the Congress of Angostura, from the Elliptical Hall of Parliament, the head of state stated that this is the beginning of a new cycle in Venezuela.
He stressed that it is necessary to “remake Venezuela through a reform that consists of 80 articles”, so he raised four major issues, after having listened to the People in more than 90,000 assemblies, which will be debated and consulted throughout the country.
First, he proposed the expansion and improvement of participatory and direct democracy, “expanding the way to build a new democratic system”, so he proposed the creation of Communal Power.
He proposed as a second theme working on the “values, principles and parameters to be established in 2025 for the construction of a new society based on humanism, revolutionary socialism and the ideas of justice, for a multipolar world”.
A third issue has to do with self-sustainable, prosperous and just Venezuela, the country's new economic base, “a new diversified and self-sufficient economic model.” He asked to go to action in an ever-changing world. “We have the maturity to consider the new economic model.”
Finally, the fourth topic is related to the “constitutional and political legal updating of the entire framework of the 1999 Constitution”, it must be adapted “in the light of the new realities of the country,” he said.
