The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, assured that the Venezuelan State exercises its right, established in international law, to self-defense against external aggressions.
“We care for peace and there are enough instruments for that; but then some people pretend, because I have seen statements out there in international media, that the Venezuelan State does not defend itself and that society does not defend itself. They want us to let terrorism advance, the mercenaries,” he said.
I affirm that the Venezuelan state has the legitimate institutional right, backed by international and multilateral UN law, to defend itself against violence, coup, terrorism and all forms that may violate life in society.
“Venezuela is firmly exercising its right to legitimate defense in a popular-military-police merger and nothing and no one will remove us from the center of our efforts,” he said.
