Héctor Rodríguez: Youth Leadership School is aimed at being a think tank

The Antonio José de Sucre International Youth Leadership School began its first cohort this Monday, focused on being a space to train the leaders needed by the country to build its future, explained the rector of this institution, Héctor Rodríguez, during a master class.

“This school, apart from the study programs, must be a think tank, a center for debate to generate ideas, a center for generating public policies for youth,” said Rodríguez, from the institution's headquarters, located in Fila de Mariches, Sucre municipality in Miranda state.

Rodríguez, according to a press release from this institution, urged young people who start classes to reflect on the reasons that motivated them to assume leadership roles in their respective communities and spaces, as well as to focus on the country project and not on personal aspirations, because there are those who “get into politics to be mayor or governor and there is nothing more disastrous than that.”

In this regard, he insisted on focusing leadership training on promoting and building a multipolar world, unity, equality, social justice, Bolivarianism, a productive economy, among others.

He also said that this school must provide “all the technical tools to perfect the skills, talent and vocation of natural leaders”, as well as being a space for them to meet and reflect.

“There are leaders that just want to be on the hill and their decisions may have room for error because they don't have an ear on the ground, and there are those who just want to be on the ground, but they don't have the vision of the field, that has to be unified,” he said.

He also recommended that students spend time reading, writing, programming ideas and reflection. “You must have your work schedule, you have to have your planning based on the project to be developed,” he emphasized, after explaining that for a more fluid and efficient work, a clear and defined method must be developed.

On February 12, coinciding with Youth Day, President Nicolás Maduro inaugurated this institution aimed at forming the country's vanguard.
