On April 6, 1922, Colonel Hugo Trejo was born, known for his valuable dedication to the revolutionary struggle and loyalty to the Bolivarian ideals, which marked the life of this soldier, university professor and diplomat, a native of Mérida.

He is recognized for his participation in the patriotic military youth movement of January 1, 1958, whose role was decisive in the overthrow of the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez, on January 23 of the same year.

Trejo graduated from the Venezuelan Military Academy in 1943 as the most outstanding member of the Francisco de Miranda class.

During his military career he worked in the garrisons of Mérida, Maracay (Aragua state) and Caracas. He specialized in the area of artillery, so he received a scholarship in 1950 to study General Staff at the Escuela Superior del Ejercito in Madrid, Spain, and on his return to Venezuela he joined the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense.

In 1967, he requested military leave and began teaching from where he assumed a critical attitude towards the neoliberal policies of the governments of the Fourth Republic.

Because of his great loyalty to Bolivarian ideals, this distinguished Venezuelan was promoted post-mortem to the rank of General of the Army in 2008 by the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez.
