Hurricane Oscar this Sunday, October 20, made landfall in the province of Guantánamo, Cuba, near the city of Baracoa, the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported in an update at 5:50pm ET, reported the CNN Español website.

The cyclone arrived with winds of 130 kilometers per hour, according to the NHC based on observations of the Air Force Reserve's Hurricane Hunter and is expected to weaken after its passage through Cuba.

Earlier, the NHC indicated that the system is expected to “move across eastern Cuba tonight and Monday.”

He added that Oscar would move faster to the northeast through the center of the Bahamas this Tuesday, October 22.

The rainfall forecast indicates that there will be between 152 and 304 mm across the east of the island. Water levels between 30 and 90 cm above normal tide levels are also expected “along the north coast of Cuba,” according to the NHC.
