Against all odds, UCV FC, representing Venezuela, lifted an adverse match and achieved a 1-1 draw in their debut in the Copa Libertadores, against Corinthians del José “El Brujo Martínez”.
The first half of the match played at the UCV Olympic Stadium was clearly dominated by the Brazilian team, however, they found themselves with a well-established defense that managed to recover the leaked balls, to cut the game. Corinthians' goal came in the 36th minute.
In the second half, the Caracas team took advantage of the peace of mind of the Brazilian team to attack, managing to tie the match at 76' after a header from Juan Camilo Zapata that bounced off the defender Joao Pedro and ended in an own goal.
“In the first half, we saw the pressure of the game against a great guy like Corinthians, but we were able to fix that in the second half and we got the result,” said the steering wheel Samuel Sosa, Vinotinto press review.
The second leg will be played at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, February 26, to define who qualifies for Phase 3 of the Copa Libertadores de América.
