In the spaces of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Rómulo Gallegos (CELARG), located in Altamira, Caracas, the immersive exhibition of the 6th edition of the Southern Biennial, Peoples in Resistance “The Power of Diversity”, was inaugurated.
This important exhibition, in addition to the international artistic celebration, is an innovative space dedicated to paying homage to the great masters of the Venezuelan visual arts, including: Antonia Azuaje, Belén Parada, José Antonio Dávila, Juan Calzadilla and Manuel Espinoza.
The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas Poljak, expressed his enthusiasm for the call for the Venezuelan cultural installation, located in the heart of a municipality that was the scene of intense battles. “Fascism occupied spaces very close to this place for months,” he recalled.
In the same way, it evoked the Venezuelan artist of indigenous origin, Elsa Morales, to whom the National Hall of Arts is dedicated. “For the simple fact of walking through those spaces with a Wayuu blanket, he was the victim of physical aggression. Thanks to the heroic resistance of the Venezuelan people, peace prevailed.”
Villegas stressed that “the motto of the Southern Biennial, Peoples in Resistance, refers to peoples like Venezuela, who have faced aggressions and challenges, managing to overcome themselves to achieve a path of peace and creation. Without the heroic resistance of this people, we would not be here inaugurating this happy meeting,” he said.
The head of the Culture portfolio mentioned that the immersive exhibition inaugurated will be replicated in all museums in the country. “The 20th century had its place, but we are in the 21st century and we must open ourselves to the new forms and potentialities that technology offers us for artistic expression,” he said.
