A group of apprentices from the National Institute for Socialist Training and Education (INCES) experienced first-hand the fascinating world of chemistry during a visit to the National Center for Chemical Technology, in an activity that is part of the National Scientific Seedbeds Program to encourage scientific curiosity.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology (Mincyt), the apprentices ventured to experience science first-hand in a laboratory where they learned about the rigorous safety measures that guarantee a protected work environment, then the experience became sensory; where young people extracted chlorophyll from a plant and observed chloroplasts under the microscope, photosynthesis ceased to be a theoretical process to become a tangible reality.

The students also measured pH and understood acidity and alkalinity, fundamental concepts in chemistry, through a simple but revealing practice.
