India and the People's Republic of China have agreed to provide mutual support during the celebration of the BRICS summits in 2026 and 2027, as reported by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the visit of the Asian Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, to the city of New Delhi.
“The parties agreed to provide mutual support for the success of diplomatic activities. The Chinese side will provide support to India in holding the BRICS summit in 2026. The Indian side will support China in holding the BRICS summit in 2027", details a statement issued by both foreign ministers and quoted by the TASS news agency.
India explained in the letter that “the Chinese side welcomed the participation of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, to be held in Tianjin.”
“The Indian side confirmed its full support for China's presidency in the SCO and expressed hope that the SCO summit will be a success and bear fruit,” the statement added.
The parties agreed to continue to provide mutual support in organizing events in 2025 dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China.
Relations between India and China began to improve after, on October 23, 2024, Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, the Russian Federation, the first in almost five years.
