Different indigenous communities in the country are marching this October 12 with great fervor to ratify their commitment to the defense of the country's sovereignty and the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez, who vindicated the struggles of the original peoples since 1999 with the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution.

“Highlight a special person who vindicated us that his name is Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, our Supreme Commander, who thanks to him we have our rights that are already written in the Bolivarian Constitution,” said Mayangeli Contreras, a young Warao from Delta Amacuro, while thanking President Nicolás Maduro for continuing to respect the will of indigenous peoples.

For his part, Ivan Gonzalez of the Pemón community indicated that they are willing to continue fighting in the face of the current attacks of imperialism against the country. “They will find us united and willing to fight as our ancestors did for these beautiful lands that make up Venezuela,” he said.

Julio Cedeño of the Yekuana community urged not to forget the massacre on this American continent by the Spanish Empire.

“We must always remember that this was a colonial genocide that they, the Spaniards, who have not asked for forgiveness for this crime against humanity,” he stressed.

In this regard, Amelia Hernández from the Mare-mare community recalled that the Day of Indigenous Resistance reminds us “that no empire discovered us, we already existed and we must be aware of the historic role we have today to continue living in freedom and independence,” she emphasized.
