The youth of the indigenous peoples were present at the March for the Day of Indigenous Resistance to highlight the importance of maintaining the struggle for the sovereignty of these lands in the face of the threats of imperialism and fascism.
“Indigenous youth are standing up to continue our fight for indigenous peoples and the sovereignty of our lands,” said Geraldin Piña, a member of the Pumé community in Apure state.
He highlighted that among the demands achieved thanks to the Bolivarian Revolution, is the recognition of indigenous women. “Today we have a major role and we have ministers, vice-ministers and indigenous leaders,” he said.
In addition, Neyva Pérez, from this indigenous community of Apure, expressed her gratitude to the Bolivarian Revolution, which has allowed the recognition of indigenous peoples, and has vindicated the resistance struggle that transcended 500 years.
“It was Commander Hugo Chávez who vindicated us and today we strongly support President Nicolás Maduro because he has been a person who has supported us as a worthy son of our Commander Chávez,” he emphasized.
