Through an investigation carried out by international media, the Israeli Army has desecrated at least 16 cemeteries in its ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, removing dirt, ruining headstones and, in some cases, digging up bodies. The investigations are supported and analyzed by satellite images and network recordings.

According to the work presented, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) appear to have used cemeteries as military posts, leveling large areas and erecting shoulders to create defensive fortifications, as well as destroying headstones or driving armored vehicles or tanks over graves.

Legal experts clarify that Israel's acts could constitute war crimes, since the intentional destruction of religious sites, such as cemeteries, violates international law and the 1998 Rome Statute to prosecute war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression (which Israel has not ratified).
