The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran denied this Wednesday the existence of negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to grant new access to its atomic complexes. National authorities took note of international reports that suggested an immediate change in current verification protocols, according to information expanded by Telesur.
The Iranian Deputy Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, categorically denied having met in Switzerland with the director general of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi. The official rejected any plan to inspect nuclear facilities and materials affected by attacks, warning that such a concession will not be evaluated outside of a definitive agreement that eliminates economic sanctions against the nation.
Tehran's position contradicts the statements of the head of the UN body, who had previously announced the scheduling of imminent inspections on Iranian territory. According to Grossi's version, the parties were in a phase of technical dialogue with the purpose of setting the dates of the supervisory visits.
The Iranian administration reiterated that levels of cooperation with the international regulatory body will not be negotiated in isolation. The scope of these operational activities will continue to be strictly subject to guidelines and resolutions approved by the country's Parliament and the Supreme National Security Council.
