The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, stated that good progress has been made and there is a “positive direction” after the second round of negotiations with the United States (USA) held in Geneva.
“We managed to reach general agreement on a number of key principles, which will now guide us as we move on to the discussion of the essence of a possible agreement,” said Abbas Araghchi.
He also added that in these negotiations they held “very serious discussions and the atmosphere was more constructive”, and explained that the parties agreed to work on the texts of their respective proposals and then set the date for the third meeting. So far, no date has been announced for the next round.
These negotiations include matters related to Tehran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions imposed by the United States against the Islamic Republic.
Iran defends its right to peaceful nuclear energy, for which it needs to maintain a uranium enrichment program, which Washington demands to dismantle.
