In a strategic shift for geopolitics and global energy markets, the Islamic Republic of Iran completed the export of 36 million barrels of crude oil in a period of five days, from June 18 to 23, 2026.

The massive deployment of shipments was immediately activated after the entry into force of the bilateral memorandum of understanding with the United States (USA), which rescinded the maritime encirclement that Washington maintained over the main oil terminals of the Persian country.

The reopening and normalization of transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a key commercial corridor through which approximately one fifth of the world's hydrocarbon supply circulates, has begun to stabilize international supply, reversing the commercial paralysis that affected the area over the past two months.

According to data from satellite monitoring firms and allied agencies, Iran also keeps a similar volume of crude oil in floating storage ready for immediate market placement.

This trade relief is part of a broader road map contemplated in a 14-point cooperation agreement reached on June 14. The document formally establishes a 60-day negotiation period to peacefully channel diplomatic differences between Tehran and Washington, while defining mutual guarantees of navigational safety for the international merchant fleet in Persian Gulf waters and promoting regional detente mechanisms that link the progress of trade with the search for a real ceasefire on the Lebanese front.

This process of rapprochement takes place within the framework of the high-level talks held at the Bürgenstock complex, Switzerland, which have received international mediation and logistical support from the foreign ministries of Pakistan and Qatar.

For its part, the Iranian Executive, headed by President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araqchi, has emphasized that the sustainability and success of this historic unlocking will depend on strict, reciprocal and verifiable compliance with the commitments made by both powers at the working tables.
