Italy: Tram derailment leaves two dead and 40 injured

This Friday, a tram derailed in downtown Milan, Italy, leaving at least two dead and 40 injured, local authorities said.

According to press reports, at least seven of those injured are in critical condition, while the others have minor injuries.

The attorney general of Milan, Marcello Viola, reported that an investigation will be opened for involuntary manslaughter and negligent injuries with the aim of clarifying the events.

In total, five rescue units and 25 rescuers were sent to the site, who had the support of the Police. The tram was on its way to Porta Genova, but it crashed into a building and hit some bystanders and a shop window.
