The Jacobo Borges University Museum of the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE) opened the exhibition “Abstraction in Motion”, a solo exhibition by honorary teacher Gladys Arguinzones, which brings together more than 25 years of pictorial production and five decades of artistic career linked to the investigation of abstraction as a language of contemporary art.
The proposal shows the versatility of Arguinzones, who, in addition to painting, has worked in sculpture, photography and restoration. The tour includes pieces from different stages, from the 80s and 90s, characterized by contrasts between prefabricated structures and natural forms, to recent works that explore the power of gesture, the use of pure color and visual tension.
The work moves through lyrical abstraction, sensitive geometry and abstract constructivism, evoking ancient cities, the relationship with the earth and the intensity of the pictorial gesture. In the most recent works, made between 2023 and 2025, large format pieces with signs, spheres and chromatic transparencies that transmit density and energy, reaffirming the artist's creative freedom, noted the curatorial text by Thelma Carvallo.
The director of the museum, Xiomara Leota, stressed that this exhibition responds to an institutional policy of UNEARTE aimed at recognizing and making visible national artistic references, with the purpose of projecting their contribution not only in Venezuela, but also in the Latin American and Caribbean spheres. “This exhibition represents a journey through the lyrical abstraction of geometry and composition. Color is an essential element in his proposal, always working with its purity and expressive power,” he said.
