The massive demonstration organized by organizations related to audiovisual activity in Argentina and accompanied by representatives of other artistic disciplines, social movements and political parties, ended to the liking of Javier Milei and Patricia Bullrich: with repression, tear gas, detainees and a cyclist hit by a driver who tried to flee and ended up colliding with another vehicle, reported the Página12 portal.

For its part, the Prensa Latina website noted that the Argentine State Workers Association (ATE) reported that the mobilization carried out this Thursday by artists, filmmakers and students was suppressed by security officials, with canes and tear gas.

During the security operation, three people were arrested, while ATE's Secretary of Gender and Diversity, Clarisa Gambera, was assaulted by police repression.

He assured that the mobilization was aimed at condemning the dismissals, strong spending cuts associated with the National Film Institute (INCAA) and the attempts of the Javier Milei government to close that body and sell the Gaumont cinema.

For this reason, the rally took place at the headquarters of the Gaumont cinema.

During the march, attendees called for defending culture, federal festivals, film and photography schools, and the continuity of television platforms.

In the same way, the organization denounced “the emptying of INCAA for delivery to large multinational platform companies”.

“We repudiate the actions of the Police. They will not be able to silence culture. We will continue to denounce all the businesses they want to carry out,” said the delegate of the ATE Cultura Internal Board, Nicolás Rodríguez.

For its part, the TeleSUR portal, in the early morning of last Tuesday, the 12th, the Milei government ordered, through Resolution 16/2024, to suspend all expenditures and all financial support; to decide not to renew contracts due on March 31; the suspension of overtime pay; the suspension of staff travel and the funding of festivals.
