This Tuesday, December 9th, the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, reaffirmed the importance of unity in the face of the aggressions of North American imperialism against the free peoples of Latin and South America.

“There will always be an aggressive empire, there will always be the intention of supremacists and fascists, but when those attempts and attacks appear, they may find us united, strong, firm and integrated as free peoples of the world,” he said during his speech at the Assembly of Peoples for the Sovereignty and Peace of Our America.

He also took advantage of the space to reaffirm the rejection of the aggressions and narratives promoted by the United States against Venezuela and other countries in the region.

For this reason, Rodríguez argued that the problem of the consumption of psychoactive substances is a public, family and social health issue, which must be addressed from a medical and human perspective, and not used as an excuse to justify military deployments or interventionist actions.

He reported that the current US administration has cut funding for the care of people with drug addiction, while keeping about 20% of its military fleet deployed in the Caribbean Sea on the grounds of the fight against drug trafficking.

He specified that only 3% of the drugs produced transit through the Caribbean, and that most of these shipments are destined for the European continent, so he assured that this dismantles the narrative used to militarize the region. “It's pure hypocrisy, ” he said.

He warned that the United States intends to do against Venezuela what it did with the alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, all with the objective of seizing our natural resources. “They seek to steal the oil, gold, water and wealth that belong to the Venezuelan people,” he criticized.
