The deputies to the National Assembly (AN), elected for the periods 2026-2031, chose, in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations for the Interior and Debate of the AN, the new directive of the parliament.
After an extensive debate and vote, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez was elected president of the National Assembly. For the first vice-presidency of the AN, the deputy Pedro Infante was elected and for the second vice-presidency, Grecia Colmenarez.
It is important to remember that these new authorities were proposed by the Patria caucus. On the other hand, the opposition block proposed Rubén Lima for the presidency of the AN; José Brito for the first vice-presidency and Alfonzo Campos for the second vice-presidency.
On the other hand, during the installation of the new legislative period, María Alejandra Hernández was elected as secretary of the parliament and José Omar Molina as undersecretary.
It is important to note that, with this re-election, Jorge Rodríguez assumes the sixth consecutive term at the head of the Legislative Branch.
In his management balance sheet, Rodríguez highlighted that between January 5, 2021 and January 5, 2026, the Parliament held more than 300 sessions and approved 100 laws, aimed, as he said, at the protection of the country, the strengthening of Popular Power and institutional recovery. Among the most recent is the Law on the Protection of Freedoms of Navigation and Commerce against Piracy, Blocking and Other International Unlawful Acts.
