Jorge Rodríguez: We are moving towards greater representation in the Judicial Nominations Committee

The Judicial Nominations Committee is the body of the Legislative Branch in Venezuela responsible for evaluating, pre-selecting and presenting candidates for magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), as well as other positions in the judicial system such as the General Inspectorate of Courts and the National School of the Judiciary.

In the first discussion and unanimously, we approved the Partial Reform Project of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court. We are moving towards greater representation of the members of the Judicial Nominations Committee.

On Thursday, the National Assembly presented a reform proposal to modify an article of the law that regulates the Judicial Nominations Committee, in order to increase the number of members from 21 to 23, which would expand the participation of civil society. The reform was approved in the first discussion and must go to a second debate for its final sanction.
