The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, denounced this Tuesday that the criminal aggression of North American imperialism against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela directly impacted the cultural sector, causing severe damage to the “José María España” Central Public Library, located in La Guaira, an emblematic infrastructure declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

During an inspection carried out at the site, the head of Culture stated that the criminal aggression of North American imperialism, which led to the kidnapping of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro Moros, also affected the cultural sector as a result of the criminal attacks suffered in the town.

Villegas explained that the visit responds to precise instructions from the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, to submit the corresponding report and proceed with the comprehensive rehabilitation of these spaces.

“We are going to respond to aggression with more culture, with more books, with better infrastructure, making this a space that exorcises violence and the violation of our sovereignty, and bring it in line with the Venezuelan people's ambition for peace and the liberation of our president Nicolás Maduro Moros,” he said.

He explained that as a result of the shock wave of three missile strikes, which fell near the emblematic cultural site, it destroyed some environments of the establishment, which is frequented by Guaireños and Guaireñas of all ages.

For her part, the coordinator of the public libraries of the state of La Guaira, Melissa Pereira, recounted the events that occurred last Friday, the 3rd of the currents. “The early morning of January 3 had a very big impact on our state, affecting the José María España Central Public Library, breaking glass, part of our roofs and infrastructure, cultural heritage of our municipality, and one of the most beloved libraries in our state,” he explained.

He explained that the aggression also caused damage to other historic buildings in the area. “The Guipuzkoana House, the General Ambrosio School and some of our colonial structures that are here in the central area were also viciously attacked and affected. However, we are here for more culture and to exorcise ourselves with culture and more literature,” he said.

The “José María España” National Public Library, located in the Historic Center of La Guaira and the Casa Guipuzkoana, have been declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, which highlights the seriousness of the damage caused to the historical and cultural memory of the Venezuelan people.
