Venezuelan Josef Martínez scored a goal and secured a place for his Montreal in the Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs.

The Venezuelan striker started, played 73' minutes and scored the second goal at 45+1, so that his club will secure the victory over New York City 2-0.

Martínez has 11 goals in 23 games played in the current campaign. The Criollo has scored in 4 of their last 5 games.

The battering ram scored 116 goals in the MLS, placing him in sixth place in history for goal scorers in the league. He is also the 2nd Latin American to enter the Top 10 of the top gunners in the U.S. league.

The Venezuelan club finished the regular phase in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, with 43 points.

Against their exes, the Venezuelan cast will host Atlanta United in the play-in round on Tuesday. If they advance, their next opponent will be Inter Miami in the first round of the MLS Cup.
