The BRICS group is preparing to examine requests for full membership from countries interested in joining the bloc next year, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“A number of countries want to be full members. This issue will be considered over the next year,” Lavrov said. The diplomat also explained that more than 30 States have expressed their interest in joining the BRICS.
In addition, according to media reports, Sergey Lavrov mentioned that BRICS countries have developed preliminary recommendations on alternative payment mechanisms that seek to establish sustainable systems.
“The recommendations have already been made. Although they are not yet definitive, they offer the opportunity to start creating reliable and long-term systems,” he explained during an interview.
The block, which originally included Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has recently expanded. This, with the addition of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran.
It is worth mentioning that the BRICS represents almost half of the world's population, 40% of global oil production and about 25% of goods exports.
