In Lebanon, at least 96 hospitals and primary care centers have had to interrupt their activities due to fighting, said Ian Clarke, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO).
“WHO is deeply concerned about the impact of the recent escalation of violence against the health system in Lebanon, including the increasing number of attacks against health workers and facilities,” Clarke said.
He also explained that “since September 17, there have been 16 attacks against healthcare, which have caused the death of 65 members of the medical staff and 40 injured.”
Clarke also drew attention to the “unexpected mass displacement” in the Arab nation, stating that some 165,000 people have been internally displaced during the week.
The representative of the world organization said that the country is facing “a situation in which the risk of outbreaks of diseases” such as acute diarrhea and hepatitis A “had increased considerably”.
