Rubén Limardo won the silver medal in the individual sword event during the Pan-American Fencing Championship held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With this result, the Venezuelan athlete reaffirms his consistency on the continental podium since his first prominent appearance in Montreal 2007.
The national representative, who won gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games, completed a new successful journey by qualifying 4-2 in the poules phase and advancing in direct crosses, successive elimination of Jorge Valderrama (15-7), Ruibo Xiao (15-8), Hernando Roa (15-4) and Alexander Camargo (9-8), until he competed in the final against the American Tristan Zsapary, who won 15-7, press release from the Ministry of People's Power for Sport.
Limardo has 14 Pan American titles, in addition to other medals won both individually and as a team. In this edition, he was once again among the best in the continent after not winning a medal the previous year.
Next Saturday, June 28, he will compete in the team category with Gabriel Lugo and his brothers Francisco and Jesús, with the possibility of achieving a new collective first place as in recent editions.
