The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva, canceled his trip to Russia, where he would attend the BRICS Summit, which will be held from October 22 to 24, after suffering a head injury due to a domestic accident, according to local media reports.

The president was admitted to the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in the city of Brasilia, with a “blunt wound in the occipital region”, a cut in the back of the neck, which the doctors did not consider serious, but required suturing, according to the medical report released this Sunday.

Cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho suggested that Lula temporarily abstain from long-term air travel, so he will participate in the Summit by videoconference.

In a statement, the Brazilian Government reported that the head of state “will have normal working hours this week in Brasilia, at the Planalto Palace.”
