The Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas Armando Reverón (MACCAR) inaugurated the exhibition “(Meta) morfosis” by the plastic artist Elisa Díaz, who exhibits a work that merges painting and crochet, using the technique known as freeform, to create an intimate and personal self-portrait.
“From a very young age I have asked myself the
following questions: who I am, what I want to be, is art really
my thing, I will go a little further than what I do. (...) When I made this piece, I was 20.
This work helped me to analyze many aspects of my life, to appreciate it, to
value it and to understand that change is inevitable, in every sense:
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual,” Diaz explained.
She also highlighted that this piece portrays
her as she weaves herself, in a kind of journey that intertwines three
fundamental elements of the human being: body, soul and mind. He considers that, throughout
life, people evolve and achieve different versions of
themselves, in a direct allegory of the metamorphosis of the caterpillar into a butterfly.
(Meta) morfosis is a work 146 cm high by 62.5 cm wide, created in 2023. In it, the plastic artist fuses painting with mixed techniques, specifically gouache and crochet in the freeform modality, as a result she gives a painting that represents her from a transformative, evolutionary and introspective perspective, as a woman and creator of art.
