The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, welcomed Pope Francis' decision to canonize Dr. José Gregorio Hernández.

“Today, as Caracas and Venezuelans, we are honored that Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, our 'doctor for the poor', is being raised to the altars. His legacy of love, humility and service continues to inspire us to build a more just and supportive society.” , Meléndez said through the social network Instagram.

In this regard, he emphasized that the people of Caracas are filled with joy and prayer for this recognition of this man of God who was an example of love and faith.

“A man who dedicated his life to serving those most in need and who today becomes a beacon of hope for millions,” he said.
