The mayor of the Libertador municipality, Carmen Meléndez, reiterated that the People of Venezuela remain mobilized in the face of any action that threatens the country's peace.

“We are deployed for the defense of the homeland. We are a people of peace, we are always mobilized in the face of any threat. We always go out on the street,” he said.

He also assured that the Venezuelan people are the guarantor of maintaining the independence inherited from the Liberators . “We are an independent country, we are no one's colony.”

“Our Liberators left us free, sovereign and independent and we must remain free, sovereign, independent and at peace, that's why we have taken to the streets; it's not just in Caracas, in all of Venezuela that we have to stay mobilized and united.”

Finally, he urged the opposition to respect the date of canonization of Venezuela's first saints, “we ask that they do not use that date as a political factor, we Venezuelans at this time are asking for peace for our country.”
