During the women's march for the liberation of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady Cilia Flores, the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, stated that “every day we will be in the streets to demand their return”, stressing the strength and unity of women's movements in defense of the homeland.
He stressed that “the masks of imperialism that only seek our wealth and our oil have fallen away”, inviting us not to let our guard down and to maintain the permanent offensive: “As our president said: resistance”.
In her speech, she also recalled the swearing in of Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, as president in charge, stressing that, despite the pain, there is still the honor of leading the Fatherland and continuing with the plan of the seven transformations: “Our president spoke to us so many times about that plan, and we must follow it firmly.”
He added that the work does not stop: “We march, we listen to the people in the territories, we solve problems and we follow the instructions of our president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, with clear economic plans for the coming days.”
Finally, Meléndez highlighted unity as a fundamental principle: “Bolivar called for the unity of patriots, and Chávez also said so in his last proclamation. Today, all women and united movements make this day an historic day for the release of our president and our first lady.”
