The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) asked the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to escalate the complaint against Ecuador before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Last Tuesday, Heads of State and Government participated in the emergency summit to analyze the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, on April 5, to kidnap former Vice President Jorge Glas, who had received political asylum a day earlier.

AMLO defended before his peers in the region the complaint filed by the Government with the ICJ against Ecuador, for the armed assault on the Embassy of Mexico and demanding the expulsion of that country from the United Nations (UN), as long as it does not offer a public apology, Telesur details.

He also added that it is very important to set a precedent before the Court and within the United Nations so that events such as the one that happened at the diplomatic headquarters “of our country in Ecuador are not repeated.”
