This Wednesday, the Secretary of Economy of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, warned that the economy of the United States (USA) will suffer a series of negative impacts if the president-elect, Donald Trump, complies with the threat of increasing tariffs on his trading partners.

The official, participating in President Claudia Sheinbaum's press conference, explained that the decision “is a shot in the foot” and announced the consequences of the 25% tariff hike that Trump wants to impose on Mexico when he assumes the presidency on January 20.

“Who do these measures affect? Mexico and the United States (...) , Canada as well, European countries, Japan, South Korea and other allies, have built one of the most important industrial and technological conglomerates with millions of well-paying jobs in the world,” Ebrard explained.

He also considered that all this is put at risk with the new trade policy that Trump wants to implement.
