The sectoral vice-president of Politics, Public
Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, announced the seizure of five long-distance
detonating devices in the state of Táchira.
During a press conference, Cabello Rondón
explained that the devices were found in the spare rubber of a
car that was coming from Colombia to Venezuela and was going to enter through the border
of the state of Táchira.
“It is a radio device that emits a frequency, which is the one that turns on the electric detonator that is connected to the C4 and
works for 10 grams, 20 grams, 5 kg, for 10 kg, for whatever charge
they put on it and it is detonated remotely. The C4 can be placed in a corner and the person
detonated it with the radio from three blocks and more away,” he explained.
He also added that the Colombian citizen who
was driving the car was arrested and goes by the name of Ender Gómez Soto.
He asserted that the information that a vehicle would enter Venezuelan territory with these devices came through a complaint. “We didn't know what car it came in, but our officials are stars and they found the devices,” he said.
“The detainee talks about two Colombian citizens: alias Abel and El Flaco, who were his contacts and are yet to be identified. There are other people in detention,” he said.
He recalled that previously the Bolivarian Government reported that Iván Somonovis had been talking about causing explosions in hospitals and public places and in Barinas they had seized explosives and small electric detonators.
