The vice-president of the Politics, Public Security and Peace sector, this Thursday, February 20, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, stressed that the Bolivarian Government “did all the necessary steps, the Government of President Nicolás Maduro, made every effort to return Venezuelans who were in Guantánamo to Venezuelan territory.”

“That is being fulfilled right now,” he said at Maiquetía International Airport, where he received the CONVIASA flight, with a new group of compatriots returning to the country through the Plan Back to the Fatherland.

He stressed that this is “a negotiating effort. Who negotiates? The Governments, that of the United States and the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”.

“Thanks to these negotiations, these Venezuelans are returning,” he said.

“We must remember that the United States government reported that they are Venezuelans who were in Guantánamo,” he said.

Cabello recalled that the compatriots who “came on past flights said: 'they took some of our colleagues to Guantánamo.”
