The Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, announced the installation of the International Council of Indigenous Peoples, with the participation of 14 countries of the continent.

Vidal emphasized that one of the main initiatives that emerged from the Council was the creation of Solidarity Brigades in the indigenous territories of Latin America and the Caribbean, with the objective of strengthening peace and sovereignty throughout the region. He stressed that these brigades are consolidated as a mechanism of union and protection against any attempt to violate the rights of indigenous peoples.

The minister emphasized that this Council constitutes a worldwide movement of fraternity, reaffirming the voice of indigenous peoples and the guarantee of their internationally recognized rights. “Every attack on the sovereignty of our countries is also an attack on the rights of indigenous peoples,” he said.

Delegations from Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador participated in the inauguration, representing indigenous movements and organizations in their respective countries.

Vidal emphasized that Venezuela becomes a territory of peace and an example of integration, welcoming indigenous brothers and sisters who ratified their commitment to the defense of sovereignty and continental unity.
