The Bolivarian Government, within the framework of the Special Economic Zone (ZEE) of La Guaira, together with local investors, inaugurated the first coffee roasting plant in the state, under the Caribbean Café brand, a project that will allow the export of processed, roasted and ground coffee, with added value, instead of being limited to the sale of green beans.

At the event, the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Trade, Coromoto Godoy, stressed that Venezuelan coffee already has access to demanding markets such as China, Russia, Belarus and Serbia, thanks to international agreements signed by the National Government.

“We are here to tell the world that Venezuela is committed to what is ours, with quality and export vocation,” he said.

Godoy stressed that the objective is “to overcome the export of green beans and position the country as a producer of high-quality finished coffee”.

The new roaster, operated by the company Caribbean Café, will generate 38 direct jobs and more than 380 indirect jobs, and will process coffee from Carayaca in the state of La Guaira and regions such as Lara, Trujillo and Portuguesa.

He specified the next step is to consolidate the Caribbean Coffee brand in the Caribbean and extend its presence to Asia and Europe, taking advantage of the infrastructure of the La Guaira EEZ and current commercial agreements.

The company's president, Roberto Gómes, assured that the project not only buys grain, but accompanies local producers. “We have already taken a tour at the national level, supporting coffee associations to achieve great production,” he said.

For his part, the national superintendent of Special Economic Zones (SEZ), Johan Álvarez, stressed that the construction of SEZ in Venezuela continues to advance despite the blockade, and that La Guaira has become a benchmark for its capacity to coordinate between the State, the private sector and popular power.

“This project shows that it is possible to build an economic model that is not dependent on oil. The determination of entrepreneurship and institutional support are making it possible to consolidate an export economy,” he said.

For its part, the Single Authority of the Special Economic Zone of La Guaira, Marcos Meléndez, reported that this is the 16th company installed in the ZEE La Guaira and the first whose technical and financial formulation was carried out entirely from the territory itself, in coordination with the National Superintendency.

La Guaira is ready to process and export coffee under its own brand, with a Caribbean identity and with a production model that is built in the midst of difficulties, but with the firm conviction of boosting the export engine proposed by President Nicolás Maduro,” he said.

The inauguration of the roaster is part of the plan to recover the Venezuelan coffee sector, which seeks to reposition the country as a producer of premium coffee in the global market.
