Minister Garcés confirms that mass transportation systems are fully operational after a double earthquake

The Minister for Transport, Francisco Garcés, reported that the road network, mass transport systems, as well as the airport runway are operational after the past seismic event in the country.

During an interview with Radio Nacional de Venezuela, he detailed one day after the start of operations of the temporary runway at the Simón Bolívar de Maiquetía International Airport in La Guaira, that the runway was recovered on time by Venezuelan professionals; providing spaces to fluidly serve 720 passengers departing internationally, 480 in the domestic one, 496 arriving internationally and 472 in the national one.

Regarding airport facilities, the Minister reiterated that the damage is small and is in specific areas, ruling out risks to the general stability of the site.

Regarding terrestrial connectivity, Garcés confirmed that the road network and mass transport systems (including rail) are fully operational. He also highlighted that the viaducts of the Caracas-La Guaira highway, as well as the bridges, preserve their structural stability, thanks to the tireless efforts of the crews, who used special equipment to carefully review the buildings.

Garcés warned that preventive restrictions on specific road sections will be gradually lifted as technical inspections progress; in this way, the Executive consolidates a safe and fluid daily mobility scheme for all citizens.
