Minister Garcés: Engineering team has carried out more than 56,000 inspections on affected structures

The president of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Infrastructure Habitability, Francisco Garcés, reported this Thursday, August 13, that the team of engineers and architects has carried out 56,609 revisions on the affected structures, and it is expected to exceed 60,000 inspections.
He specified that this will make it possible to give way to phases 2 and 3, aimed at the detailed evaluation of the buildings and the definition of their repair methods.
The statement was offered in the auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), where Garcés led an act of recognition to 165 engineers and architects from the interior of the country, who participated in the inspections carried out in the seven states most affected after the double earthquake of last June 24.
He explained that these professionals arrived in Caracas a few hours after the earthquake to join the evaluation brigades organized by the Presidential Commission.
“We recognize and thank all these professionals deployed mainly in La Guaira, Caracas and Miranda; many have left their homes for more than a month to bring peace of mind to the population,” he emphasized.
Garcés highlighted that a total of 519 interior specialists joined this plan and will receive a tribute in the coming days.
He ratified that “if the structure has a red label, it will be reevaluated to determine its destination, however, most of these buildings have structural damage or not, which limits their use temporarily; this does not imply their demolition, but rather the preparation of a repair project that must be submitted to the Mayor's Office and the Commission.”
The event was also attended by the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Julio Molina; the technical director of the Engineering Institute Foundation, Víctor Cano; the rector of the National University of Sciences, Gabriela Jiménez; and the Secretary General of Government Management of the Mayor's Office of Caracas, Jorge Cordero.
