The Sectorial Vice President of Science, Technology, Education and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, said that the climate change facing planet Earth affects agricultural activity, human life and biodiversity.
During his participation in the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth, he asserted that as a result of climate change, the Pacific basin in 2025 faces twice as many cyclones and hurricanes, an increase of more than 1.5 degrees in the temperature of the Caribbean Sea, as well as increases in evaporation from the sea and an increase in abrupt rains.
“A completely dispersed, non-seasonal climate affects agricultural productivity, people's lives, biodiversity, coexistence, and in the case of Venezuela this year, rainfall increased by 300%,” he added.
He also mentioned that a study carried out in the Yanomami communities of Venezuela, showed positive results in terms of their microbiota. “It was determined that they are the purest on the planet and that this microbiological diversity responds to their relationship with the natural environment and their dietary habits,” he said.
“They learned to eat and not just to eat and now they ask us that indigenous communities participate in new microbiota studies because then those studies are patented and converted into treatments for the recovery of irritable bowel syndrome. Our food is the best medicine,” he added.
