During his participation in the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth, the Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Ricardo Molina, stated that environmental education should not be limited to the celebration of specific dates such as Arbor Day, among others.
“Environmental education has to make the population understand what a cultural issue is,” said Molina, stressing that anniversaries play a symbolic function, but they fail to capture the structural dimension between the bond between people and nature.
The head of the ecosocialist ministry revealed that environmental education implies a lifestyle, a way of relating to Mother Earth through formal and informal systems. “A way of living in harmony with Mother Earth,” he added.
The World Congress of Mother Earth takes place at the La Carlota Convention Center, Caracas. The event brings together numerous participants from different countries, including social leaders, environmentalists, academics and representatives of popular power.
