The Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, said that October 12 continues to be a day of resistance for the native community of Venezuela.

“We continue to commemorate this day as resistance and give ourselves that Indian strength, that strength and that courage that our original peoples have to go against any empire, but also in a permanent offensive with our homeland,” he said.

The minister emphasized that indigenous peoples maintain their active presence in the defense of the country. “They're not going to erase them from history. We are still here and here we will continue to stand up with our silent weapons, with our bows and arrows, with our sisters, with our spirits up and with love for the Bolivarian homeland,” he said.

Vidal also referred to the collective responsibility of indigenous peoples in defending their rights. “The Gayón people, the indigenous people of the Orinoco Delta, of the Amazon, we must all demonstrate who we are. It is we who have that responsibility today,” he concluded.

For his part, Nahum Fernández, vice president of Mobilization and Events of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), highlighted popular participation in the event.

“Today we walked through the main avenues of Caracas on the Day of Indigenous Resistance. We have seen the great battle that the indigenous people have fought in Ecuador, in Peru, and here in Venezuela it can't be different. 500 years later, we took up the flag of active and permanent resistance and took to the streets of Caracas with the Venezuelan flag,” he said.
