The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, stated that Venezuela adopts the criterion of biocultural zones, also conceived by his Colombian counterpart, Yannai Kadamani Fonrodona; which integrates culture and the ecosystem as two closely interconnected spheres.

“We immediately accepted that criterion, recognizing the territory as biocultural zones, lifting the absurd barrier between the ecosystem and cultural dynamics, there is no culture without life, without diversity in every sense,” he said during his speech at the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth.

He also celebrated this meeting as a space to raise the voice of peoples for the protection of the planet. At the same time, he claimed the Caribbean Sea “as the center of our America” because of its cultural, historical, energetic and strategic wealth.

In turn, he condemned the aggression being carried out by imperialism from this immense body of water against peoples. We have an infinite number of languages and languages, and today in the Caribbean the destiny of humanity is being debated. The ruthless attacks of imperialism against our fishermen, against our navigators, without a formula of justice, are an attack on life and on Mother Earth,” he warned

He pointed out that today the Caribbean Sea is the epicenter of a clash between two sociopolitical models: the imperialist one gone mad and a model that simply advocates peaceful coexistence between all cultures, between all peoples”.

For this reason, he emphasized that in the face of attacks, the peoples of the Caribbean cannot surrender, they must not surrender and we do not want to give up”; in order to guarantee a future for new generations, in addition to honoring the heritage of the continent's original ancestors.
