The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil Pinto, during his speech at the Mid-term Ministerial Meeting of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (MNOAL), which is being held in Uganda, urged people to raise their voices against colonialism and neocolonialism.
“We call to raise our voices against colonialism and neocolonialism, against fascism and neofascism, against sanctions and blockades, against unilateral coercive measures, against the use and threat of use of force. A concrete step in that direction would be to vote, tomorrow, within the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, in favor of the proposal promoted by our country to declare December 14 as the International Day against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations,” he said.
Regarding the deepening of cooperation, he explained that bridges of solidarity must be built, “South-South cooperation in health, education, energy, technology (...) We must free ourselves from financial systems designed to keep us in debt; free ourselves from all those mechanisms that, since their inception, have had the purpose of perpetuating subjugation and dependence”.
The foreign minister assured that beyond denouncing the aggressions of the Government of the United States (USA) against the nation, Venezuela proposes the creation of mechanisms that truly serve the interests and desires of peoples. “We propose to permanently choose dialogue and diplomacy over imposition; international solidarity and cooperation over selfishness and intolerance; and, above all, peace over war. Because without peace there can be no development and without justice there can be no prosperity,” he said.
Since the meeting in Kampala, Gil recognized the resistance that Belarus, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe and Palestine have led for years in the face of “hegemonic policies and neocolonial practices”.
