In the face of carnival festivities, the Ministry of Education banned the election of carnival queens among students or within educational facilities.
Newsletter No. 16 of the educational portfolio, signed by Minister Héctor Rodríguez, indicates that this practice of violence against girls and young people affects the life, freedom, dignity, physical, psychological, sexual and economic integrity of girls and adolescents.
“I take this opportunity to clarify that the Ministry of People's Power for Education does not in any way authorize the election of carnival queens among students or within educational facilities. Let us be clear and convinced that this is, without a doubt, a disastrous practice, an expression of symbolic violence against girls and young people, which will certainly evolve into physical and sexual violence. Violence against girls and young women affects their lives, their freedom, dignity, physical, psychological, sexual and economic integrity; it is our duty to protect them from this. The transmission of stereotypes that falsify and violate are issues that we must bring to the debate as teachers, families and society,” says the bulletin.
